Session descriptions

Dr. Mamdani will showcase his work in a presentation entitled “Applied AI in Health: Implications for Medical Education and Clinical Practice” and facilitate an engaging question and answer segment following his talk. This session is designed to ignite interest in the current state of the AI field and offer attendees the chance to explore research beyond their own.

At registration, undergraduate and graduate trainees, medical students, and postdoctoral fellows are invited to submit poster abstracts. Following review of all abstracts, the top 12 abstracts will be selected for presentation during symposium talks at the event. In each symposium room, three presenters will be asked to give a 10-minute talk on their current research. After all presentations, a 15-minute panel discussion will be held involving all presenters in that room. This is an excellent opportunity to present your research to an audience from various technical backgrounds. The best abstract will receive an award at the event!

Thank you for your interest in submitting an abstract. The abstract submission deadline is now closed. We will notify successful applicants on Friday, May 10, with the response expected by Tuesday, May 14. Failure to accept our invitation will result in disqualification from the program.

Presenters will be asked to give a summary of their current research with a 36” x 48” poster, followed by questions from their peers, faculty, and judges. Presentations will be judged based on content, structure, delivery, presentation, visual aids, time management, question responses, impact & other categories. Presenters are encouraged to include all necessary background information, methodologies, and conclusions needed to understand the study. Note that you do not need to have results to present a poster, as this session is a great opportunity to present your research (or methodology), with more personal interactions and a great exchange of ideas. Spots are limited for this session and awards will be given to the best presenters!

This session offers trainees and postdoctoral fellows a valuable opportunity to engage with 25+ academic and industry professionals, gaining insights into potential future career paths and forging meaningful relationships. The session will match attendees to 3 professionals based on the attendees’ selections at registration. Attendee spots will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis and will be limited to ensure productive conversations.

Similar to a “speed dating” format, each Career Coffee Chats session will involve a series of 3 x 15-minute networking rounds, with each professional interacting with up to 4-5 attendees per round. At the end of the 15 minutes, a bell will be rung and attendees will switch tables to connect with their next assigned professional. Attendees may connect with the professionals outside of this session to start or continue their conversation.

Given that registration has closed, those who have already registered for the event will either be notified for acceptance or placed on the waitlist for this session by Friday, May 10.

At the end of the showcase, we will host the following three mentorship panels that allow attendees to hear from mentor figures from their aspiring field:

  1. Applying & getting into graduate school
  2. Navigating graduate school and early-stage academia
  3. Applying & getting into medical school

Trainees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the application process, program challenges, and scholarship opportunities, and receive any tips or advice on how to best maximize the success of their journey. Panelists will have a chance to enter a raffle to win a prize!
